1:1 Swimming Lessons, Isle of Man

“Water is a living being. Try to fight it, and it’ll fight back. But learn how to treat it respectfully, and water will become a soothing and uplifting friend.”

  • 1:1 swimming lessons take place in a private pool in Union Mills, just outside Douglas. The tranquil surroundings of the pool make it the perfect place to forget your worries and focus on being in the water.

  • I offer 1:1 or 2:1 sessions. Book a session just for you, or share your session with a friend and support one another.

  • Each session lasts 30 minutes.

  • Book a one-off coaching session with no obligation to book further sessions. If you enjoy your intro session, all further coaching must be block booked (5 lessons in a block).

What you can expect from a 1:1 swimming lesson with me

You get time and space to explain your fears and hopes for the session. If you’ve had adult swimming lessons with me before, we’ll have a recap before chatting about the focus for the current session.

I am in the water with you until you feel comfortable being in the pool without me. You’ll get constant reassurance and guidance throughout your 1:1 swimming lesson.

We move through the coaching process at a pace that suits you. Some students make progress quickly. For others, it takes a little more time to build confidence. We never rush to the next step if you or I don’t feel you’re ready.

Testimonial

"Siân is a very patient coach who offers constant reassurance. Since starting sessions with Siân, I understand more about water and have more control over my breathing when in the pool. As a result, I'm more confident, my fear of water has lessened, and I'm a stronger swimmer. I have a hectic job, and it's good to escape routine and spend time doing something for myself. Siân has a great sense of humour, and I always come away from her sessions feeling uplifted and energised."

Traditional swimming lessons mainly focus on technique. Brainwaves 1:1 swimming lessons focus on you and your relationship with water before you even swim a stroke.

I moved away from traditional teaching styles as I wanted to emphasise how important it is to think about the process rather than thinking about the outcome. To move through water freely, you have to be more mindful. Water is more than a liquid – it has a character of its own. Slap water with your hand, and you’ll face resistance. Yet slip into the water, and it will embrace you. If you are gentle with water, the water is gentle with you.

Over the years, I’ve researched and studied various coaching methods. The unique combination of these methods is what makes Brainwaves coaching and 1:1 swimming lessons successful.
